A RESOLUTION


Commending HomeLife Communities; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, HomeLife Communities is a Georgia based company with divisions in Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, and Phoenix and will open a home sales division in Albequeque in March, 2007; and

WHEREAS, on January 21, 2007, HomeLife Communities was featured prominently on the Emmy Award winning Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on ABC-TV, a program where a team of designers renovates the homes of families in need; and

WHEREAS, during December, 2006, HomeLife Communities was instrumental in the program's home renovation project of Linda Riggins of Raleigh, North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, Linda Riggins is actively involved in her community, spending the past 15 years working for the Building Together Ministries, a nonprofit organization that helps disadvantaged parents encourage their children to excel in school by providing them with resources and after-school programs; and

WHEREAS, as part of the program, HomeLife Communities and its trade partners demolished the Riggins family's existing home, which was slated for condemnation, and built a brand-new 3,070 square foot home for them in just 94 hours; and

WHEREAS, HomeLife Communities and its trade partners also remodeled the Building Together Ministries building; and

WHEREAS, HomeLife Communities employees from Atlanta and Charlotte joined their counterparts in Raleigh in organizing and leading the round-the-clock project; and

WHEREAS, HomeLife Communities rallied and organized more than 1,000 tradesmen and 1,300 additional volunteers to provide a new home and remodeled community center; and

WHEREAS, HomeLife Communities employees raised $165,000 to pay off the Riggins family's two mortgages as well as Linda's medical bills so she could focus on aiding her community as she has in the past; and

WHEREAS, the January 21, 2007, episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was seen by over 20 million viewers across the United States.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend HomeLife Communities for their exceptional compassion and professionalism in conducting the renovation project for Linda Riggins and Building Together Ministries and extend to them their sincerest best wishes for the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to HomeLife Communities.
