RESOLUTION
Commending
the tourism industry in Georgia and establishing January 29, 2008 as "Tourism
Day" at the capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the travel and tourism industry plays a vital role in Georgia´s economic
prosperity and the quality of life for all Georgians; and
WHEREAS,
tourism annually generates more than $29.9 billion in expenditures, which
support 219,300 jobs and contribute $1.3 billion to state and local tax revenue;
and
WHEREAS,
the travel and tourism industry representatives work to promote Georgia as a
premier travel destination with unique places, scenes, and activities;
and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus represents
destination marketing organizations in Georgia with a cohesive voice on issues
and concerns of the tourism industry; and
WHEREAS,
the Tourism Development Alliance of Georgia was founded in 2002 to increase
awareness of the tourism industry as a strategic economic development engine
within Georgia̓s economy.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
recognize the tourism industry as critical to the economic vitality of the State of Georgia.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Georgia Association of Convention & Visitors
Bureaus is a cohesive voice and educational resource for destination marketing
organizations in Georgia and that the Tourism Development Alliance of Georgia
represents the Georgia tourism industry in creating awareness of the importance
of tourism and effective tourism policy to the State of Georgia and that both of
these esteemed organizations work closely with the Georgia Department of
Economic Development and other hospitality related organizations in Georgia, as
well as nationally and internationally, to bring about economic development
through tourism.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Georgia Association of
Convention & Visitors Bureaus.
