A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Charles T. Lester, Jr., on the occasion of his retirement; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Charles T. Lester, Jr., has worked tirelessly throughout his exemplary career as an attorney; and

WHEREAS, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and a Juris Doctor degree, with distinction, from Emory University; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Lester is a partner with the law practice of Sutherland Asbill and Brennan LLP; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Lester has provided many valuable hours of service to the State Bar of Georgia, serving as past president, immediate past president, president, and president-elect; serving on the Governor's Judicial Nominating Commission; serving the Younger Lawyers Section as co-founder, president, immediate past president, president-elect, president ex-officio, treasurer, executive council-at-large, committee chair, and fellow; and serving on the board of governors, the executive committee, the formal advisory opinion board, the commission on continuing lawyer competency, and the public service foundation; and

WHEREAS, he has provided the State Bar of Georgia with untold hours of volunteer service and valuable knowledge by serving on committees affecting the operation of the State Bar of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his work with the State Bar of Georgia, Mr. Lester has provided service in alternative dispute resolution and to organizations such as Atlanta Legal Aid Society, Inc., Chief Justice's Commission on Indigent Defense, Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network, Georgia Supreme Court Committee on Civil Justice, GreenLaw, formerly the Georgia Center for Law in the Public Interest, the American Bar Foundation, the Georgia Bar Foundation, Georgia Law Related Education Consortium, Georgia Legal Services Program, Georgia Indigent Legal Services, Georgia Mental Disability Law Project, Lawyers Club of Atlanta, Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Leadership Atlanta, and United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, his many hours of service and exemplary career have resulted in his receiving numerous awards; and

WHEREAS, he is a member of the American Bar Association; American Judicature Society; Lawyers Club of Atlanta; State Bar of Georgia; Georgia Trial Lawyers Association; Old Warhorse Lawyers Club; Atlanta Bar Association; National Legal Aid and Defender Association, Georgia Bar Foundation, and the Gate City Bar Association.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Charles T. Lester, Jr., for an outstanding legal career and his valuable service to the legal community and extend to him their best wishes for success, good health, and personal fulfillment in all of his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Charles T. Lester, Jr.
