RESOLUTION
Commending
the Roswell High School Hornets football team; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Roswell High School Hornets football team has maintained a proud tradition
of athletic excellence with equal emphases on character and academics;
and
WHEREAS,
this superlative team completed a whirlwind season, beginning with an aggressive
4-0 record, earning its first number one ranking since 1971; and
WHEREAS,
the road to the championship was long and difficult, but the Hornets won each of
their last five regular season games by an average of two touchdowns, escaped
their first two playoff opponents by a combined four points, achieved a 21 point
quarterfinal victory over Houston County, and posted a 14 point win over Tift
County in the semifinals, held in the Georgia Dome stadium in Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
the Hornets soared through the playoffs to the championship game and faced the
Peachtree Ridge Lions in one spectacular final battle, where both teams gave an
equally heartfelt performance; and
WHEREAS,
the 2006 Roswell High School Hornets were named Class AAAAA State Football
Champions; and
WHEREAS,
as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by
performing with courage and precision over months of pain and hard work, it is
just and proper to call them champions.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the Roswell High School Hornets football team for its unparalleled
determination, tenacity, and character and extend their sincerest best wishes
for continued success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Coach Tim McFarlin.
