A RESOLUTION


Honoring and remembering the life of Ms. Onnie Lucille Johnson; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, during the course of her humble life, Ms. Onnie Lucille Johnson touched many lives with her generous and faithful spirit; and

WHEREAS, she was born in 1920, a proud daughter of Gwinnett County, and departed this life on Sunday, January 7, 2007; and

WHEREAS, she spent her youth picking cotton in rural Gwinnett County, and graduated from Mechanicsville School in western Gwinnett County; and

WHEREAS, she was a member of the Greatest Generation, for she endured through the Great Depression and sacrificed during WWII; and

WHEREAS, she was a charter member of Buford Highway Baptist Church in Doraville and South Gwinnett Baptist Church in Snellville and was honored to be the "Old Lady" of the church; and

WHEREAS, she retired from full-time employment in 1981 after 25 years of loyal service to Avon Cosmetics Company; and

WHEREAS, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Mr. Royce Alvin Johnson, and her only son, Dean Royce Johnson, and her four siblings, and is survived by two children, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, she was a faithful Christian who lived her life honestly, decently, frugally, and simply, and she exuded a quiet strength in her twilight years that is the moniker of her generation.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join together to express their deepest regret at the passing of Ms. Onnie Lucille Johnson but share the celebration of her life with her family, friends, and county.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Ms. Onnie Lucille Johnson.
