RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Howard A. Tyler; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Howard A. Tyler, a senior manager and certified peace officer with the Alcohol
and Tobacco Division of the Georgia Department of Revenue, has recently been
recognized by the Peace Officers Association of Georgia as Officer of the Year
for Meritorious Service; and
WHEREAS,
the Tyler family never expected a real emergency to occur the same day they were
to attend an Emergency Medical Services conference in New Orleans;
and
WHEREAS,
in a horrible turn of fate, Hurricane Katrina rocked through New Orleans that
day, leaving thousands homeless and 1,599 people dead in its wake; and
WHEREAS,
with extraordinary skill and tenacity, Howard Tyler unhesitatingly aided New
Orleans Port Authority Police in the pandemonium that followed, rendering first
aid services with his wife to approximately 70 people who had severe medical
problems; and
WHEREAS,
Howard Tyler was instrumental in organizing and restoring order to the hotel
vicinity, quickly guiding hurricane victims to shelter, and relaying crucial
information to rescue personnel as well as his staff at ATD headquarters;
and
WHEREAS,
Howard Tyler displayed great professionalism and dedication during Hurricane
Katrina, bringing honor to the name of law enforcement and to the State of
Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body hereby recognizes and
commends Howard A. Tyler for his outstanding service to the State of Georgia and
its citizens and expresses its gratitude to him.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Howard Tyler.
