RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Officer Matthew Buehler; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Officer Matthew Buehler of the Marietta Police Department has recently been
recognized by the Peace Officers Association of Georgia as Officer of the Year
for Valor; and
WHEREAS,
Officer Buehler honorably serves the community of Marietta on the Morning Watch
in Uniform Patrol Division and is a highly talented leader of the force, serving
as a Crime Scene Technician and Field Training Officer and acting as a member of
the Special Response and Zone Management teams; and
WHEREAS,
on November 1, 2005, Officer Buehler displayed selfless courage and heroism in
responding to a deadly motor vehicle accident and preventing a tragedy; and
WHEREAS,
at approximately 4:40 a.m., officers were dispatched to a horrific scene –
two victims were trapped inside of an overturned, flame-wreathed vehicle on
Interstate 75 South near Allgood Road Bridge; and
WHEREAS,
officers armed with a total of 11 fire extinguishers aided Officer Buehler as
he crawled into the capsized vehicle, cut the occupants' seat belts, and
extricated them to safety as the vehicle literally exploded into flames;
and
WHEREAS,
the heroic actions of Officer Buehler on this occasion exemplify the highest
standards of the law enforcement profession and should be recognized by this
body.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body hereby recognizes and
commends Officer Matthew Buehler for his outstanding service to the State of
Georgia and its citizens and expresses its gratitude to him.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Officer Matthew Buehler.
