A
RESOLUTION
Commending
the Savannah Arts Academy´s Silver Winds Ensemble; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Savannah Arts Academy´s Silver Winds ensemble was formed in August, 1998,
under the direction of Michael E. Hutchinson, Ed. S., as one of the major
symphonic ensembles in the Savannah Arts Academy´s Music Department;
and
WHEREAS,
the Silver Winds Ensemble was invited by Frank Ticheli to perform the world
premiere of a commissioned Ticheli Composition in the Sidney Opera House and
will travel to Sidney, Australia, June 30, 2008, for the performance;
and
WHEREAS,
the National Band Association awarded Director Michael E. Hutchinson a "Citation
of Excellence" for an Outstanding Contribution to Bands and Band Music, February
2, 2008, in Troy, Alabama; and
WHEREAS,
the members of the Silver Winds Ensemble were invited to perform at the 35th
Southeastern United States Concert Band Clinic and Honor Bands, and after the
performance at the 35th Southeastern United States Concert Band Clinic and Honor
Bands, received an award for Outstanding Performance; and
WHEREAS,
sixty-one members of Silver Winds Ensemble were selected as members of the 2008
Georgia Music Educators Association District One Honor Band; and
WHEREAS,
nine members of the Silver Winds Ensemble, Brittany Harshman, Manuel Ramos, John
Worsham, Jaron McCarr, Mark Spradley, Nancy Ryerson, Julia Pafford, Tung Vu, and
Alexander Wasily were selected through a state audition process as members of
the 2008 All-State Concert Band; and
WHEREAS,
the music of the Silver Winds Ensemble is truly balm for the wounded spirit,
hope for the discouraged, magic for the dreamer, and is as beautiful and
valuable as silver and as powerful as the wind.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the Savannah Arts Academy´s Silver Winds Ensemble for their outstanding
performances and tremendous achievements and extend their best wishes for
continued success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Savannah Arts
Academy´s Silver Winds Ensemble.
