RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mitchell Oliver; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ranger First Class Mitchell Oliver of the Department of Natural Resources has
been recognized by the Peace Officers Association of Georgia as Officer of the
Year for Valor; and
WHEREAS,
on January 1, 2006, Ranger Oliver displayed selfless courage and heroism in
responding to a deadly automotive accident and preventing a tragedy; and
WHEREAS,
that morning, Ranger Oliver happened upon a two car collision that had blocked
both lanes of traffic on Georgia 315 in Harris County; and
WHEREAS,
he soon discovered that the driver of the first vehicle was pinned beneath the
steering column of his burning S-10 pickup, having suffered painful fractures to
both his left femur and right ankle; and
WHEREAS,
the intense heat had rendered the passenger's side of the truck inaccessible,
while the driver's side door was sealed due to extensive damage during the
collision; and
WHEREAS,
with the aid of another citizen, Ranger Oliver was able to fold down the window
frame and extricate the driver through the improvised portal, liberating the man
from the now fully engulfed wreckage; and
WHEREAS,
his heroism has brought honor to the law enforcement profession.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body hereby recognizes and
commends Ranger First Class Mitchell Oliver for his outstanding service to the
State of Georgia and its citizens and expresses its gratitude to
him.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ranger First Class
Mitchell Oliver.
