RESOLUTION
Recognizing
the Coweta Up In Smoke Barbecue Cook-off as the "Florida Barbecue Association
Georgia State Championship"; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Coweta Up In Smoke Barbecue Cook-off is a registered contest of the Florida
Barbecue Association, a prestigious recognition that elevates the Coweta cooking
event to a select group of contests held throughout the United States;
and
WHEREAS,
the Coweta Up In Smoke Barbecue Cook-off is an immensely popular event that
attracts competitors, judges, vendors, musicians, artists, and tourists from all
parts of Georgia as well as throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS,
the contest, as the annual fund raiser for the Coweta Community Chest, a benefit
which serves as a clearing-house for causes such as the Coweta County Food
Pantry, the Meals on Wheels Program, the Community Welcome House, and the
Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity, is an important philanthropy for Coweta
County and also provides direct assistance to Coweta families and individuals in
crisis; and
WHEREAS,
in addition to the barbecue cook-off, the family oriented festival offers live
music, arts and crafts, a variety of events and entertainment, and great family
fun for all ages.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the Coweta Up In Smoke Barbecue
Cook-off in Coweta County is hereby recognized as the annual "Florida Barbecue
Association Georgia State Championship."
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Coweta Up In Smoke
Barbecue Cook-off.
