A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT


To amend an Act creating the Coweta County Water and Sewerage Authority, approved March 20, 2001 (Ga. L. 2001, p. 3539), so as to change the terms of members of the authority; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
An Act creating the Coweta County Water and Sewerage Authority, approved March 20, 2001 (Ga. L. 2001, p. 3539), is amended by revising subsection (b) of Section 2 to read as follows:
"(b) The authority shall consist of three members who shall be appointed by the Board of Commissioners of Coweta County, Georgia. Terms of those members serving in office as of April 10, 2008, shall expire at the end of such day. One member shall be appointed for a term of two years commencing April 11, 2008, and until a successor is appointed and qualified; one member shall be appointed for a term of three years commencing April 11, 2008, and until a successor is appointed and qualified; and one member shall be appointed for a term of four years commencing April 11, 2008, and until a successor is appointed and qualified. Thereafter, all members shall be appointed for terms of four years each and until successors are appointed and qualified. To be eligible for appointment as a member of the authority, a person shall be at least 21 years of age and a resident of Coweta County, Georgia, for at least two years prior to the date of his or her appointment. No member of the authority shall be eligible to hold an elective public office of this state or any county or municipality within this state unless first resigning as a member of the authority. No person shall be eligible for appointment to the authority who has been convicted of a felony, who is serving in an elected public office of this state or any county or municipality within this state, who is an employee of this state or any county or municipality within this state, or who is an employee of a utility system not operated by the authority or Coweta County. Any member of the authority may be selected and appointed to succeed himself or herself."

SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
