RESOLUTION
Encouraging
the National Football Foundation to relocate the College Football Hall of Fame
from South Bend, Indiana, to Atlanta, Georgia; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the mission of the National Football Foundation is to promote and develop the
power of amateur football in developing the qualities of leadership,
sportsmanship, competitive zeal, and the drive for academic excellence in
America´s young people; and
WHEREAS,
the National Football Foundation established the College Football Hall of Fame
in 1951 as a hall of fame and museum devoted to college football, featuring
memorials and memorabilia of great American football players and coaches, and
over 800 players and 170 coaches have been inducted into the College Football
Hall of Fame based on criteria established by the National Football Foundation;
nominations by foundation members, coaches, athletic directors, and sports
information officials; and ultimate selection by the foundation´s Honor
Court; and
WHEREAS,
with its booming metropolitan market of more than five million people, its
modern and convenient convention centers, and its international airport, the
City of Atlanta offers the ability to reach millions of visitors,
conventioneers, and sports fans; and
WHEREAS,
the City of Atlanta and the State of Georgia would take great pride in the
opportunity to host the College Football Hall of Fame.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body encourage the National Football Foundation to relocate the College
Football Hall of Fame from South Bend, Indiana, to Atlanta,
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the National
Football Foundation.
