RESOLUTION
Honoring
the memory of Thor David Hesla; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia lost a distinguished citizen on Monday, January 14, 2007,
when Thor David Hesla was tragically killed in a militant attack in Kabul,
Afghanistan, where he was working under contract with the U.S. Agency for
International Development to help Afghanistan rebuild its government and
infrastructure; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Hesla was educated at Briarcliff High School and Emory University and went
on to become an accomplished and highly respected political communications and
event logistics manager; and
WHEREAS,
he achieved great successes in many arenas, including the political, having
managed eight congressional campaigns and worked on two presidential campaigns;
and
WHEREAS,
he worked to make successes of many prominent events, including providing
logistics expertise for events such as the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, the 1990
Seattle Goodwill Games, and the 1999 World Trade Organization Summit;
and
WHEREAS,
much of his work was for the end of making the world a better place, including
his service as an adviser to the Kosovo Economic Project and with other
governments world wide; and
WHEREAS,
surviving family members include Mr. Hesla's father David, his sister Maren, and
his beloved niece and nephew Olivia and David; and
WHEREAS,
this dynamic, productive, and high achieving Georgian will be sorely missed by
all who were privileged to know him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body hereby
honors the memory of Thor David Hesla and extends to his family the sympathy of
its members in their time of loss.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Hesla's
family.
