RESOLUTION
Recognizing
the Homespun Festival; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Homespun Festival was developed through the efforts of The Rockmart
Merchants Association, the Rockmart Chamber of Commerce, and fellow volunteers
as a local fund raiser in July of 1978; and
WHEREAS,
the event began with 51 exhibitors from throughout the area; and the festival
has exhibited handmade items of all varieties for 30 years, increasing its
number of attendees from a few hundred to over 8,000; and
WHEREAS,
today, the festival is a two-day event beginning on Friday evening with Gospel
music and family fun and continuing on Saturday with exciting activities such as
a 5-K race on the Silver Comet Trail, an Annual Homespun Parade, a Rotary duck
race, a Kiwanis Club car show, and great Southern food and entertainment;
and
WHEREAS,
the event also welcomes local civic organizations to set up booths for
conducting fund raisers and educating the public about their activities; and
WHEREAS,
parents and children alike can spend hours browsing the festival's variety of
craft booths or enjoy one of the many children's rides that have always
distinguished Homespun as one of the state's premier festivals for
families.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
the Homespun Festival for its outstanding philanthropic activities for 30 years
of operation, commend its commitment to family atmosphere and high quality craft
art, and extend their sincerest wishes for many more years of
success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Rockmart Chamber of
Commerce.
