BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Chapter 1 of Title 50 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating
to general provisions regarding state government, so as to provide that each
state agency that issues permits, licenses, certificates, and identification
cards to citizens of this state shall issue replacement permits, licenses,
certificates, or identification cards without charge to citizens who apply for
such replacement permits, licenses, certificates, or identification cards and
who demonstrate that their original permits, licenses, certificates, or
identification cards were lost or destroyed as the direct result of a natural
disaster; to provide for related matters; to provide an effective date; to
repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Chapter
1 of Title 50 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to general
provisions regarding state government, is amended by adding a new Code section
to read as follows:
"50-1-9.
(a)
As used in this Code section, the term 'natural disaster' shall mean a flood,
tornado, hurricane, earthquake, or other occurrence for which the President of
the United States has made a federal disaster declaration under the Robert T.
Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, 42 U.S.C. Sections
5121-5206.
(b)
Each state agency that issues permits, licenses, certificates, or identification
cards to citizens of this state including, but not limited to, drivers'
licenses, state identification cards, professional licenses, professional
certifications, professional registrations, professional permits, and birth
certificates, shall issue replacement permits, licenses, certificates, or
identification cards without charge to citizens who apply for such replacement
permits, licenses, certificates, or identification cards and who demonstrate
that their original permits, licenses, certificates, or identification cards
were lost or destroyed as the direct result of a natural disaster if such
application is made within 60 days following a federal disaster declaration
under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, 42
U.S.C. Sections 5121-5206, and if such citizen is a resident of the area
included within such federal disaster
declaration."
SECTION
2.
This
Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its
becoming law without such approval.
SECTION
3.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
