A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT


To amend Part 7 of Article 7 of Chapter 3 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to HOPE scholarships and grants, so as to provide that dependent children of military personnel stationed in Georgia on active duty shall be deemed to meet the residency requirements for purposes of HOPE scholarships and grants; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Part 7 of Article 7 of Chapter 3 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to HOPE scholarships and grants, is amended in Code Section 20-3-519.2, relating to eligibility requirements for a HOPE scholarship at a public postsecondary institution, by adding a new subsection to read as follows:
"(i) A dependent child of military personnel stationed in Georgia on active duty shall be deemed to meet the residency requirements of paragraph (1) of subsections (a), (b), (c), and (d) of this Code section."

SECTION 2.
Said part is further amended in Code Section 20-3-519.3, relating to eligibility requirements for a HOPE scholarship at a private postsecondary institution, by adding a new subsection to read as follows:
"(h) A dependent child of military personnel stationed in Georgia on active duty shall be deemed to meet the residency requirements of paragraph (1) of subsections (a), (b), (c), and (d) of this Code section."

SECTION 3.
Said part is further amended in Code Section 20-3-519.5, relating to eligibility requirements for a HOPE grant at a branch of the Technical College System of Georgia, by adding a new subsection to read as follows:
"(g) A dependent child of military personnel stationed in Georgia on active duty shall be deemed to meet the residency requirements of paragraph (1) of subsection (a) of this Code section."

SECTION 4.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
