A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Cadet Captain Earl Porter III and inviting him to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Cadet Captain Earl Porter III is in his final year at North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega, Georgia, attending for the last four years on a U.S. Army ROTC Scholarship; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Decatur High School, Cadet Captain Porter is majoring in criminal justice and maintains an impressive grade point average of 3.93; and

WHEREAS, Cadet Captain Porter has had the opportunity to demonstrate his leadership skills through his service as Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, Battalion Command Sergeant's Major, Company Commander, and Deputy Brigade Commander for Operations; and

WHEREAS, Cadet Captain Porter attended the Army ROTC National Leader Development and Assessment Course at Fort Lewis, Washington, during the summer of 2008, where he completed the course ranked first in the nation out of the 4,400 cadets in attendance, an awe-inspiring accomplishment; and

WHEREAS, Cadet Captain Porter has been honored with numerous cadet, military, and scholastic awards, including Distinguished Graduate during the cadet Noncommissioned Officers Academy, the Good Conduct Ribbon for three straight years, Noncommissioned Officer of the Year, the Superior Cadet Award, the Office of Multi-Cultural Affairs Senior of the Year, and being placed on the President's List for four semesters; and

WHEREAS, Cadet Captain Porter received a prestigious Olmstead Scholarship which allowed him to broaden his horizons and expose him to foreign culture by studying for a summer in Russia; and
WHEREAS, Cadet Captain Porter holds leadership positions in all the associations in which he is active, such as the Mountain Order of Colombo, the Scabbard and Blade Military Honor Society, the Ranger Challenge team, and the Cadet Honor Board; and

WHEREAS, upon his graduation in May, 2009, Cadet Captain Porter plans to commission on active duty in the Infantry Branch.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that members of this body recognize Cadet Captain Earl Porter III for his outstanding achievements and extend best wishes for his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Cadet Captain Earl Porter III is hereby invited to appear before the House of Representatives at a date and time to be fixed by the Speaker of the House for purposes of being recognized by the House and receiving an appropriate copy of this resolution.
