RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Paul L. Howard, Jr., and Ms. Bettieanne C. Hart; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) held their Annual
Conference where a select group of elected women from across the nation joined
forces with the "Love is Not Abuse" campaign sponsored by Liz Claiborne, Inc.;
and
WHEREAS,
the "Love is Not Abuse" campaign seeks to raise awareness about the issue of
teen dating violence due to the surprising number of young adolescents who are
experiencing significant levels of dating violence and abuse; and
WHEREAS,
Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr., and Deputy District
Attorney Bettieanne C. Hart have been instrumental in promoting and increasing
participation in this important outreach program throughout Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Howard and Ms. Hart conscientiously and diligently devoted their time and
efforts to assisting in the "Love is Not Abuse" campaign, and their efforts have
generated increased awareness and a decrease in the level of teen dating
violence; and
WHEREAS,
on February 8-10, 2009, Mr. Howard hosted a regional youth summit entitled
"Let's Rap About R.A.P.-Relationship Abuse Prevention," dedicated to ending
youth relationship violence; and
WHEREAS,
with co-sponsorship by Alston & Bird, Spelman College, the Georgia Institute
of Technology, Morehouse College, and New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, the
conference included important programs such as victim and expert panels and
discussions and workshops on equality, respect, establishing healthy
relationships, and identifying signs of abuse; and
WHEREAS,
these two dedicated public servants merit recognition for their efforts with
respect to this issue and the protection of our youth, who are our nation's
greatest resource.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body does
hereby recognize and commend Mr. Paul L. Howard, Jr., and Ms. Bettieanne C. Hart
on their remarkable efforts to reduce teen violence through the "Love is Not
Abuse" campaign.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Paul L.
Howard, Jr., and Ms. Bettieanne C. Hart.
