House Resolution 1119

A RESOLUTION


Commending The Auditory-Verbal Center, Inc., and inviting Executive Director Debbie Brilling to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, in the State of Georgia there are more than 600,000 hearing impaired citizens of whom 30,000 are profoundly deaf children; and

WHEREAS, in 2009, The Auditory-Verbal Center, Inc., a nonprofit United Way agency, celebrates 33 years of bringing individuals with hearing impairment or loss into a lifetime of listening and speaking through the use of high technology and auditory-verbal therapy; and

WHEREAS, over the past 33 years, The Auditory-Verbal Center, Inc., has enabled over 300 deaf children in Georgia to hear and speak without the need for sign language or lip reading, allowing them to reenter the mainstream hearing population and providing them with limitless opportunities; and

WHEREAS, by providing listening, language, and fundamental literacy skills for deaf children, The Auditory-Verbal Center, Inc., has expanded the educational horizons and improved the quality of life for the deaf children of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, The Auditory-Verbal Center, Inc., has recently expanded their services to provide hearing screening, diagnostics, counseling, hearing aid management, telephone training, central auditory processing, and classes to accommodate adults with hearing disabilities; and

WHEREAS, The Auditory-Verbal Center, Inc., is dedicated to helping all hearing impaired Georgians function successfully.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the board and staff of The Auditory-Verbal Center, Inc., for their dedication and commitment to the hearing impaired citizens of Georgia and extend their sincere best wishes for continued success in the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Debbie Brilling, Executive Director of The Auditory-Verbal Center, Inc., is hereby invited to appear before the House of Representatives at a date and time to be fixed by the Speaker of the House for purposes of being recognized by the House and receiving an appropriate copy of this resolution.
