RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mrs. Martha Jane Gunn Wilhoit; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mrs. Martha Jane Gunn Wilhoit on December 29, 2008;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Wilhoit was the beloved daughter of Jamie Simeon Gunn and Blanche Lowe
Gunn; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Warren County, Georgia, Mrs. Wilhoit graduated from Georgia State
College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia, where she earned her Bachelor of
Science degree in education; and
WHEREAS,
this dedicated educator devoted her career to the public schools of Rockdale,
Greene, Morgan, Washington, Hancock, Jefferson, and Warren Counties;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Wilhoit retired from Briarwood Academy in 1992 after 18 years of service;
and
WHEREAS,
this remarkable Georgian was an active member of Johnson United Methodist
Church, Sunday School Class, the Warren County Chamber of Commerce, and the
Daughters of the American Revolution; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Wilhoit was united in love and marriage to Jud P. Wilhoit, and she is
survived by her children, Judson "Trip" Wilhoit III and Ocie Blanche "O.B."
Wilhoit McCorkle, two grandchildren, and many loyal friends; and
WHEREAS,
all who were privileged to know this distinguished Georgian join her family in
mourning her loss.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body hereby
joins in honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Martha Jane Gunn Wilhoit and
expressing its appreciation of her many contributions to her community and the
State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs.
Wilhoit's family.
