A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mr. Allen Keith Thornell; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mr. Allen Keith Thornell on August 3, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Thornell was born December 8, 1970, in Salt Lake City, Utah, a beloved son of Cheryl Thornell and the late Peter Grenville Thornell; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Thornell relocated to Atlanta in 1994 and began volunteering his time to improve the lives of individuals living with HIV/AIDS through his involvement as a board member of the AIDS Survival Project; and

WHEREAS, he served the citizens of the City of Atlanta as an officer of both Neighborhood Planning Unit-W and the Atlanta Planning Advisory Board and as a member of the Atlanta Human Relations Commission; and

WHEREAS, he worked to address the needs of working families through his affiliation with the Service Employees International Union and Georgians for Healthcare; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Thornell dedicated countless hours of his time, talents, and energy to defending human rights with Georgia Equality; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Thornell will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and he will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Allen Keith Thornell and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Allen Keith Thornell.
