RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Ms. Pat Gay on the occasion of her retirement; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ms. Pat Gay has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital
role that she has played in the lives of children and her deep personal
commitment to the young people of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time,
talents, and energy for almost 30 years as a children's librarian at LaGrange
Memorial Library, touching the lives of countless children and families with her
storytelling abilities; and
WHEREAS,
a native of St. Louis, Ms. Gay attended Emory University and served as a
librarian in New Orleans before joining the staff of LaGrange Memorial Library
in 1978; and
WHEREAS,
she has delighted her audiences with her ability to capture and fascinate
children with voices, costumes, and reenactments; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Gay is a co-founder of the Azalea Storytelling Festival, which attracts
nationally known storytellers and over 3,000 attendees yearly and which was
recognized with a 1999 National Storytelling Leadership Award; and
WHEREAS,
devoted to the craft of storytelling, Ms. Gay makes dozens of trips each year to
local schools, day care centers, and nursing homes to spread the joy of reading
and imparts her experience and wisdom by teaching storytelling to librarians,
media specialists, and would-be tellers; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Gay is united in love and marriage to her supportive husband, Sidney, who
enjoys being a member of his wife's storytelling audiences;
and
WHEREAS, although her daily presence at LaGrange Memorial Library will be sorely missed with her retirement, her influence will be present for years to come through the many people whose lives have been enriched by her storytelling.

NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Ms. Pat Gay for her nearly three decades of efficient,
effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to LaGrange and the State of
Georgia; congratulate her upon the grand occasion of her retirement; and extend
to her their most sincere best wishes for continued health and
happiness.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Pat Gay.
