House Resolution 1649
By: Representatives Keown of the 173rd, Cox of the 102nd, Graves of the 12th, Reese of the 98th, Parsons of the 42nd, and others

A RESOLUTION

Urging the Congressional Delegation of the State of Georgia to support federal legislation to prevent the United States Environmental Protection Agency from adopting regulations to regulate carbon emissions; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is currently threatening to regulate carbon emissions if Congress does not; and

WHEREAS, it is believed that such regulations would have the effect of eliminating jobs at the worst needed time; and

WHEREAS, the EPA ruled that greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide endanger human health, which cleared the path for the agency to issue mandatory regulations to reduce carbon emissions; and

WHEREAS, the states of Texas, Alabama, and Virginia have filed petitions to request review of the EPA's finding; and

WHEREAS, Congress is trying to block the EPA from acting without Congressional approval, including legislation introduced by Senator John Rockefeller on March 4, 2010 to impose a two-year suspension on potential EPA regulations.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body requests our elected Representatives and Senators in the United States Congress to support federal legislation to prevent the United States Environmental Protection Agency from adopting regulations to regulate carbon emissions.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia Congressional Delegation.
