RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the YMCA of Georgia's Youth Assembly; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the YMCA of Georgia's Youth Assembly is a model state legislature for high
school students in which students serve as legislators, justices, attorneys, and
lobbyists; and
WHEREAS,
participants in the Youth Assembly may run for the offices of Youth Governor,
Lt. Governor, and Speaker of the House; and
WHEREAS,
students participating in the Youth Assembly are also given the opportunity to
explore the role the media plays in government by participating in the
production of a daily newspaper; and
WHEREAS,
established in 1946, the Youth Assembly conference takes place in the historic
halls of the Georgia State Capitol, providing participants with an experience of
a lifetime; and
WHEREAS,
this year, the Youth Assembly celebrates its 65th anniversary, and the YMCA of
Georgia celebrates 80 years of excellence and tradition; and
WHEREAS,
the 65th Youth Assembly is made up of many bright and eager young leaders,
including Youth Governor Tyler Bishop, Lt. Governor Jeff Hopper, Speaker of the
House Katelyn Koschewa, President Pro Tem Emily DeJarnett, Speaker Pro Tem Cody
Newsome, Chief Justice Ainsley Liken, Secretary of the Senate Audra Vaughters,
Assistant Secretary of the Senate Lauren Beaver, Senate Doorkeeper Gerriell
Craig, Senate Floor Leader Matt Porter, Senate Messenger Reed Pagett, Clerk of
the House Nicole Futch, Assistant Clerk of the House Becky Swain, House Floor
Leader Philedelphia Brewer, House Doorkeeper Ryan Valezquez, House Messenger
Holly Beasley, and House Reading Clerk Elizabeth Heard; and
WHEREAS,
the Youth Assembly allows students to experience firsthand the excitement and
importance behind the legislative process and better understand the complexity
of the lawmaking process in this state.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the YMCA of Georgia's Youth Assembly for 65 years of teaching
Georgia's future leaders the legislative process.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the 65th
Youth Assembly.
