A
RESOLUTION
Congratulating
the Gilmer High School wrestling team on winning the Class AAA State
Championship title; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
through perseverance and iron determination, the Gilmer High School wrestling
team earned the top ranking in the state by scoring an incredible 197 points,
earning the school its sixth wrestling state championship since 2005;
and
WHEREAS,
two Gilmer Bobcats, Andrew Smith and Hunter Barnes, captured individual state
championships at the tournament held at the Gwinnett Arena; and
WHEREAS,
Andrew Smith barreled through his 189 pound bracket, leading 6-0 in the finals
after the first period and finishing the second period strong with a 13-8
victory; and
WHEREAS,
with a well earned reputation for scoring quick pins and ending matches, Hunter
Barnes pinned his opponents faster than any wrestler across all classifications
at the state duals, with a 42 second victory during the quarterfinals and an
amazing 22 second victory in the finals; and
WHEREAS,
other Bobcats brought home medals for Gilmer High School, including Justin Karr
who placed second, Cody Bollinger and James Longino who finished third, and Zac
Horton and Danyuhl Becker who placed fourth; and
WHEREAS,
the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding
athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and
spirit of each member of the team and the astute direction of Head Coach Sam
Snider; and
WHEREAS,
as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by
performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition,
it is abundantly proper to call them
champions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate the Gilmer High School wrestling team for winning the 2010 Class AAA State Championship and extend their sincerest best wishes for future success.
