RESOLUTION
Commending
police chiefs and other heads of law enforcement agencies in this state and
observing a day of recognition in their honor; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
in the State of Georgia, there are more than 600 police chiefs and heads of law
enforcement agencies who provide a critical service, managing approximately
35,000 sworn peace officers; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police is an organization of honorable men
and women dedicated to the preservation of life and property of Georgia citizens
in a professional and ethical manner; and
WHEREAS,
these brave law enforcement leaders provide public service above and beyond the
call of duty, often at great personal risk and tremendous sacrifice not only of
themselves but of their families; and
WHEREAS,
from the time of their initial police chief training provided by the Georgia
Association of Chiefs of Police, and throughout their careers, each member has
demonstrated continuous loyalty to the call to serve and has combined and
increased their public safety effectiveness through cooperation with state,
county, and local governmental officials; and
WHEREAS,
police chiefs and heads of law enforcement agencies of Georgia support the
continuous elevation of standards and training of law enforcement managers and
have been instrumental in increasing the public's awareness of methods for
avoiding being victims of crime; and
WHEREAS,
it is only fitting and proper that the police chiefs and heads of law
enforcement agencies of Georgia be recognized for their many personal sacrifices
and outstanding and courageous contributions to the citizens of this
state.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend each police chief and head of a law enforcement agency in this state for his or her outstanding commitment to the people of this state.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Police Chiefs and Heads of Law Enforcement Agencies
Recognition Day, February 24, 2009, is being observed in recognition and honor
of all police chiefs and heads of law enforcement agencies in the State of
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Police Chief
Mike Jones, President of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, and Frank
V. Rotondo, Executive Director of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.
