RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Mike Glenn and inviting him to be recognized by the House of
Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Mike Glenn graduated with honors from Coosa High School in Rome, Georgia,
where he was elected class president, president of the math club, and Most
Likely to Succeed; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Glenn finished his high school career with 12 years of perfect attendance
and as the number one rated basketball player in the State of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
he earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Southern Illinois University
and was drafted to play in the NBA by the Chicago Bulls in 1977;
and
WHEREAS,
during his career in the NBA as a player, Mr. Glenn played for the Bulls, the
New York Kicks, and the Atlanta Hawks, while also attending graduate school at
St. John's College and working on Wall Street as a financial consultant;
and
WHEREAS,
he was recognized with numerous honors and accolades during his basketball
career, including the Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award from the NBA and the
Spirit of Love Award from the NBA Players Association; and
WHEREAS,
this talented athlete established the nation's first major basketball camp for
deaf athletes in 1980, a nonprofit organization that has uplifted the lives of
young athletes for the last 30 years; and
WHEREAS,
for the last 16 years he has diligently and conscientiously served as a
basketball analyst for television, dedicating many years to covering the Atlanta
Hawks and currently working with
Hawks
Live, a pregame, halftime, and postgame
show on FSN South; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Glenn has been united in love and marriage to Rhonda Glenn and is blessed
with a remarkable son, Michael; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of
this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Mr. Mike Glenn's amazing career as an athlete and
commentator, commend him for his selfless service to young athletes, and invite
him to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be
determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Mike
Glenn.
