RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Sheriff Kerry Milton Dunaway on the occasion of his retirement;
and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Sheriff Kerry Milton Dunaway was raised in Crawford County, Georgia, and
graduated from Crawford County High School; and
WHEREAS,
after attending college in Oklahoma and returning to Georgia to raise livestock,
Sheriff Dunaway discovered his true calling in life was to protect and serve the
people of his community as a police officer; and
WHEREAS,
after working for the police department in both Roberta and Forsyth, Georgia,
Sheriff Dunaway was elected to the position as chief law enforcement officer in
Crawford County and was sworn in as Sheriff on December 23, 1983;
and
WHEREAS,
during his tenure as sheriff of Crawford County, Sheriff Dunaway has handled
several high profile cases, including the "Bubba Bombers," sticky fingered
emergency medical services officials, and public officials found guilty of
stealing public funds; and
WHEREAS,
Sheriff Dunaway has built one of the finest sheriff's offices in the State of
Georgia during his tenure, ensuring that his staff and officers received proper
training, the best safety and technological equipment available, and served as a
model of a efficient and well run office; and
WHEREAS,
during his tenure as sheriff, Sheriff Dunaway has boldly and resolutely faced
every obstacle and challenge with a calm and assertive attitude, including all
but eradicating the presence of methamphetamine laboratories in Crawford County;
and
WHEREAS,
Sheriff Dunaway has served as sheriff with valor and compassion for the last 25
years and stands as a true champion for the citizens of Georgia, guided by the
best interests of the people.
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the members of this body show their
gratitude for the unique and courageous contributions of local law enforcement
officers on behalf of the citizens of this state.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the care, fortitude, and selfless dedication exhibited by
Sheriff Kerry Milton Dunaway in carrying out the difficult duties of his
vocation for over three decades and extend to him their utmost appreciation for
having so purely and truly defined for others the meaning of public
servant.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Sheriff Kerry
Milton Dunaway.
