RESOLUTION
Commending
Chief G.B. Hatfield; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Cobb Police Chief G.B. Hatfield will retire April 30 after 39 years in law
enforcement; and
WHEREAS,
he began his career as a rookie patrol officer in 1971, when he was 21 years
old, and spent several years in the department's traffic-enforcement unit before
he was appointed as chief in 2005; and
WHEREAS,
the Cobb County police department was very different when he first began his
career. The total county police department was about 160 employees, including
civilians, while today, there are more than 700 employees; and
WHEREAS,
Chief Hatfield's wife, Becky, is the chief probation officer in Marietta's
municipal court, and she is also retiring. The couple plans to spend time with
their grandchildren in St. Louis, and at their home on Lake Hartwell;
and
WHEREAS,
it is only right and proper that this outstanding public servant be recognized
and commended for his many years of service.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Chief G.B. Hatfield and wish him and his wife many years of
happiness in retirement.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Chief G.B.
Hatfield.
