RESOLUTION
Urging
the State Board of Cosmetology to investigate and report on the need for and
feasibility of requiring certain ventilation equipment for nail technicians;
requesting appropriate assistance from other state agencies for purposes of such
study; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the presence of nail dust, nail particles, fumes, and other substances in the
workplace may present a workplace health hazard for nail technicians and others;
and
WHEREAS,
a Georgia enterprise has recently developed a unique portable ventilation and
filtration unit for nail technicians' work stations which incorporates a HEPA
filter and has the potential to greatly improve workplace safety;
and
WHEREAS,
a thorough study is needed with respect to the need for and feasibility of
implementing the use of such equipment.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body does
hereby urge the State Board of Cosmetology to investigate and report on the need
for and feasibility of requiring ventilation equipment for nail technicians and
requests that the board make a report of its findings to this body no later than
December 31, 2009.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Environmental Protection Division of the Department
of Natural Resources and the Department of Labor are hereby requested to provide
any necessary or appropriate assistance and resources to the State Board of
Cosmetology in the course of this study.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the
appropriate officers of each of the above named agencies.
