RESOLUTION
Congratulating
Georgia Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Noel Z. Holcomb on the
occasion of his retirement and inviting him to appear before the House of
Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Commissioner Noel Z. Holcomb has served the Georgia Department of Natural
Resources with dedication and devotion for more than 30 years; and
WHEREAS,
Commissioner Holcomb graduated from West Georgia College, earning both
bachelor's and master's degrees in biology; and
WHEREAS,
during his tenure with the Department of Natural Resources, Commissioner Holcomb
has served as a wildlife technician, a wildlife biologist, regional supervisor,
assistant division director, and director and has honorably held the position of
Commissioner since August 9, 2004; and
WHEREAS,
Commissioner Holcomb's outstanding service to the department earned him the
title of Wildlife Resources Technician of the Year in 1984 and a Meritorious
Service Award; and
WHEREAS,
a resident of Plainville, Georgia, Commissioner Holcomb is active in many
organizations, including the Wildlife Society, the Southeastern Committee on
Wildlife Disasters, the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, and the
University of Georgia's School of Forestry External Advisory Committee and
Foundation Lands Committee; and
WHEREAS,
one of Commissioner Holcomb's greatest achievements while with the department
was the creation of the Arrowhead Educational Center, a facility with classrooms
and instructors who teach students about the environment, conservation,
wildlife, and natural resource stewardship, serving five school systems and
educating over 69,000 students to date;
and
WHEREAS, he is also responsible for ensuring the preservation of historic resources and the implementation of environmentally sound business practices for conservation, economic development, and outdoor recreation interests across the state; and

WHEREAS,
Commissioner Holcomb is united in love and marriage to his wife Terri Holcomb,
and the couple has been blessed with a remarkable son, Zane; and
WHEREAS,
Commissioner Holcomb will enjoy his retirement by spending time with his family,
hunting, fishing, canoeing, caving, and hiking; and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia is honored to have such a motivated and hard-working
individual as one of its citizens.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Commissioner Noel Z. Holcomb for his years of service to the
Georgia Department of Natural Resources and extend best wishes on an enjoyable
and well deserved retirement.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Commissioner Noel Z. Holcomb is hereby invited to
appear before the House of Representatives at a date and time to be fixed by the
Speaker of the House for purposes of being recognized by the House and receiving
an appropriate copy of this resolution.
