A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Tom Cochran; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Tom Cochran has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cochran dedicated nearly three decades of service to the University of Georgia, serving as business manager for the Department of Student Activities and working for the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, where he retired as Associate Vice President; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure with Student Affairs, Mr. Cochran founded the Arch Society and served as advisor to the Student Government Association, Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity, and numerous other student organizations; and

WHEREAS, the Arch Society was established in 1992 to provide the University of Georgia with students who serve as goodwill ambassadors and greeters on behalf of the school; and

WHEREAS, in honor of his years of service to the Arch Society, the program established the Tom Cochran Service Award in 1998 which is granted to an Arch Society member who spends the most hours serving the University of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, a community leader, Mr. Cochran is active with the Ark United Ministry Outreach Center, which provides emergency financial assistance to the low-income population of Athens-Clarke County and surrounding counties; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cochran has served as president of the University Employees Credit Union, where he was instrumental in the merger between the University Employees Credit Union and the Georgia Federal Credit Union; and
WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Cochran is a founding member and served as first pastor of Ashford Memorial Methodist Church in Oconee County, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cochran is united in love and marriage to his supportive wife, Frances, and he has been blessed with the love and support of their children, Will and Marcie Cochran and Maggie and Rick McAllister; and three remarkable grandchildren, Anna, Gracie, and Sarah; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize Mr. Tom Cochran for his incredible service to the University of Georgia and the people of this state and extend to him best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Tom Cochran.
