RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Universal Peace Federation; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
it is increasingly recognized that much of the hostility and disagreement in
society is substantially rooted in religious intolerance and animosity; and
WHEREAS,
there is a great need for people of faith to join together to overcome the
sectarian divisions that are a primary source of conflict and violence
throughout the world; and
WHEREAS,
despite the distinct differences of various religious traditions, common ground
exists among faiths that can be the basis for mutual respect and cooperation;
and
WHEREAS,
Americans are blessed to live in a country that places high value on religious
tolerance, with the right to worship freely guaranteed by the First Amendment of
the Constitution; and
WHEREAS,
all people share the very essence of humanity that transcends race, ethnicity,
and national origin, binding humankind together; and
WHEREAS,
the United Nations was created to promote peace amongst all people of the world;
and
WHEREAS,
the Universal Peace Federation and its network of Ambassadors of Peace are
promoting interfaith cooperation and service as a starting point for genuine
dialogue, reconciliation, and peace building; and
WHEREAS,
the Universal Peace Federation held a world summit which culminated on January
31, 2009, with a celebration of the 90th birthday of its founder, the Reverend
Dr. Sun Myung Moon.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend the Universal Peace Federation for its work in establishing peace and reconciliation among nations and people of different faiths.

BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Universal
Peace Federation.
