RESOLUTION
Recognizing
Wednesday, February 25, 2009, as Gwinnett County Day at the state capitol; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Gwinnett County, Georgia was founded in 1818 and named after Button Gwinnett, a
founding father of the United States who signed the Declaration of Independence;
and
WHEREAS,
home to 15 municipalities, the county seat for Gwinnett is Lawrenceville,
Georgia, and the county's current population stands over 775,000;
and
WHEREAS,
Gwinnett County is home to the state's newest institution for higher education,
Georgia Gwinnett College; and
WHEREAS,
with the slogan "Gwinnett is Great," this county has been attracting new
residents and visitors for its proximity to Atlanta, Athens, and Lake Lanier,
serving as a leader for this state's economic growth and development;
and
WHEREAS,
the Gwinnett County Chamber of Commerce is recognized as a leader in bringing
together the elected, civic, business, and educational leaders to resolve
challenges and meet needs and who are committed to supporting state and regional
issues for the betterment of all Georgians; and
WHEREAS,
the citizens of Gwinnett County are justly proud of their community, its past,
and its many contributions to the state, and it is only proper to recognize
Wednesday, February 25, 2009, as Gwinnett County Day at the state
capitol.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Wednesday, February 25, 2009, as Gwinnett County Day at the
state capitol and congratulate the citizens of Gwinnett County on their many
outstanding accomplishments.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the press,
the public, and the Gwinnett County Chamber of Commerce.
