A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mrs. Debi West; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Debi West has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the
vital role that she has played in the teaching profession and her deep personal
commitment to the education of the students of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs.West holds an educational specialist degree from the University of Georgia
and teaches advanced drawing and painting at North Gwinnett High School in
Suwanee, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
this highly respected professional educator and art instructor began her career
with the Gwinnett County Public School System at Sugar Hill Elementary School,
and she taught at Rockbridge Elementary School and Level Creek Elementary School
before moving on to North Gwinnett High School; and
WHEREAS,
in recognition of her contributions to the students in this state, Mrs. West has
been named Art Educator of the Year by the Georgia Art Education Association and
a 2008 honoree by the Woodruff Arts Center Education Committee; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. West has also been honored with such distinctions as the 1999 GAEA
Elementary Level Art Educator of the Year, the 2001 Southeastern Art Educator of
the Year, the 2005 National Elementary Art Educator of the Year, and the 2005
Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year; and
WHEREAS,
inspired by her son, Mrs. West is committed to raising awareness of urea cycle
disorders and their relationship to undetected metabolic disorders and autism
and the National Urea Cycle Disorders Foundation; and
WHEREAS,
in recognition of her contributions to the students in this state, it is
abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary
commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body heartily and gratefully commend Mrs. Debi West for her sacrifice,
foresight, dedication, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia,
congratulate her for her many accolades, and recognize the positive influence
she has had upon the lives and futures of countless young people in this
state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Debi
West.
