A RESOLUTION


Commending the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women and its National Leadership Institute; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women (NOBEL/Women) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization composed of black women who are current and former elected officials who inspire women to take an active role in public policy issues and serve as a catalyst for reform; and

WHEREAS, established in 1985, NOBEL/Women has a current membership of 223 and has expanded its vision to serve as a global voice to address issues affecting the lives of women in this country and throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, members of NOBEL/Women work tirelessly to ensure the enforcement of programs and policies that meet the legal, social, health, economic, and educational needs of children, women, and families; and

WHEREAS, this groundbreaking organization created a signature program in 2002 called the National Leadership Institute which provides leadership, public policy, and campaign training to prepare black women to run for office, seek board appointments, and advance in the public, private, or community sector; and

WHEREAS, the National Leadership Institute utilizes experts in the fields of public policy, leadership, and politics to provide innovative and challenging curriculum for the elite 25 participants it accepts per year; and

WHEREAS, as Women's History Month, March, 2009, is set aside to celebrate and honor those women who have contributed their time and talents to the betterment of this state and nation, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to pay tribute to this talented and trailblazing organization and its many important accomplishments.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women for its exemplary public service and recognize the outstanding training and education provided by its National Leadership Institute.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women.
