A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Vienna International Exchange; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Vienna International Exchange (VIE) is a private public partnership that represents the City and State of Vienna, Austria, in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, founded in 2006 by the City and State of Vienna, VIE provides cultural exchanges in order to enhance understanding and acceptance between the United States and Central Europe; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Chairman Craig Lesser, Laura Paige Enzendorfer, and Thomas Schwarz, VIE promotes the common interests of citizens of the United States and Vienna in such areas as economic development, education, and international planning; and

WHEREAS, in 2007, VIE sponsored a Memorandum of Understanding, a partnership between the Georgia Department of Education and the Vienna Board of Education to promote and recognize the LIA-Teach Abroad program; and

WHEREAS, through the LIA-Teach Abroad program Austrian educators are matched with Georgia schools to teach a variety of subjects including math, science, special education, and foreign languages; and

WHEREAS, the instructors involved in VIE's LIA-Teach Abroad program provide enhanced instruction, serve as ambassadors for Austria, and foster understanding between the English and German languages; and

WHEREAS, due to VIE's outstanding lobbying efforts, the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation has committed 100 full scholarships for Georgia higher education institutions for students committed to the study of life sciences and technology; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments and contributions of this amazing organization be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Vienna International Exchange for advancing understanding and communication between Georgia and Vienna.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Vienna International Exchange.
