A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Ms. Victoria Viola Graves Rakestraw; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Ms. Victoria Viola Graves Rakestraw on February 7, 2009;
and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Rakestraw was born in Walton County, Georgia, the first of three children
for the late Mr. and Mrs. William Graves; and
WHEREAS,
this kindhearted and magnanimous woman attended Social Circle School and worked
as a child caretaker and housekeeper and was later employed by Nepco;
and
WHEREAS,
a woman of deep and abiding faith, Ms. Rakestraw was a member of Corinth
Missionary Baptist Church, where she devoted her time as secretary for the
church, served on the Mother Board, and diligently helped with the church's
vacation Bible school; and
WHEREAS,
this distinguished senior gentlewoman gave inspiration to many through her high
ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens, and she possessed the
vast wisdom which only comes through experience and the strength of character
which is achieved through overcoming the many challenges of life;
and
WHEREAS,
known for her great skill in the kitchen, Ms. Rakestraw leaves behind her loving
children and their families, as well as a host of grandchildren and
great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
all who were privileged to know this loving and generous mother, grandmother,
sister, and friend join her family in mourning her loss and cherish the memory
of their wonderful times shared with Ms. Rakestraw.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Ms. Victoria Viola Graves
Rakestraw and expressing their appreciation for her many contributions to her
family, community, and the State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Ms. Victoria Viola Graves Rakestraw.
