RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Water Well Standards Advisory Council; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
groundwater is one of the most precious natural resources in the State of
Georgia and this nation; and
WHEREAS,
the protection of this great natural resource is one of the most important
duties of this great state; and
WHEREAS,
the Water Well Standards Act of 1985 was enacted by the Georgia General Assembly
to provide standards for the siting, construction, operation, maintenance, and
abandonment of wells and boreholes to protect the public health and the state's
water resources; and
WHEREAS,
the State Water Well Standards Advisory Council was created to administer this
Act and is a division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources,
Environmental Protection Division; and
WHEREAS,
the Council is charged with licensing water well contractors and certifying pump
installing contractors; and
WHEREAS,
like all state agencies, the Council has experienced severe budget difficulties
and staffing problems over the years, yet its capable staff continue to do an
excellent job protecting the precious groundwater of this state and regulating
the well drilling industry; and
WHEREAS,
the hard work and contributions of the Council toward protecting the groundwater
of this state is worthy of recognition.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the staff of the Water Well Standards Advisory Council for its
dedicated public service to protecting Georgia's natural resources and extend
their most sincere appreciation for their service to the state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Water
Well Standards Advisory Council.
