RESOLUTION
Recognizing
March 30, 2009, as Africa Day at the Georgia State Capitol; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the continent of Africa is made up of 53 distinct countries; and
WHEREAS,
there are now many current Georgia residents who were born in Africa or who have
families from Africa, and the African community has contributed positively to
the economic, social, and political well-being of the State of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia and the members of the General Assembly appreciate the
presence, productivity, and many contributions of those residents of African
birth and lineage; and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia acknowledges and welcomes the rich cultural tapestry of the
peoples of Africa, recognizes the economic contributions and diversity of the
African people, and seeks to build positive relationships with the countries
and people of Africa; and
WHEREAS,
members of the Coalition of Concerned Africans, Inc., have made a positive
impact in the lives of Georgia's residents by organizing international health
fairs, legal forums, and Saturday youth mentoring programs; and
WHEREAS,
members of the Coalition of Concerned Africans, Inc., continue to encourage
positive community involvement by organizing Africa Day at the Georgia State
Capitol.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize March 30, 2009, as Africa Day at the Georgia State Capitol
in honor of the many cultural, political, economic, and social ties between
Georgia and the nations and people of Africa.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Coalition
of Concerned Africans, Inc.
