A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Gene Ferguson; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Gene Ferguson has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of his community have earned him the respect and admiration of neighborhood groups, elected officials, and the public at large; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ferguson is a legend of the Civil Rights Movement who made significant contributions in marches, demonstrations, and rallies for change alongside Reverend Hosea Williams, Reverend Joseph E. Boone, and Father Austin Ford; and

WHEREAS, he worked as a program specialist at the Emmaus House from 1968 to 1996 where he served the City of Atlanta's underprivileged youth by developing life changing and uplifting programs; and

WHEREAS, as a member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the Metropolitan Atlanta Summit Leadership Conference, Mr. Ferguson participated in over 200 protests nationwide calling for equal rights and justice; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ferguson's community service has been invaluable to the City of Atlanta, the State of Georgia, and this nation, promoting racial equality, the needs of the poor and downtrodden, and the need for access to quality healthcare and education; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. Gene Ferguson for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated service to the African American community throughout the world; recognize the incredible contributions he made during the Civil Rights Movement; and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health, happiness, and success

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Gene Ferguson.
