A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Atlanta Pet Rescue; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, a nonprofit organization, Atlanta Pet Rescue began in 1999, with the vision of Judy Price, who saw that many loving animals were being euthanized by shelters due to the enormous number of pets surrendered and abandoned each day; and

WHEREAS, Atlanta Pet Rescue gives dogs and cats from rural high kill animal shelters and puppy mill seizures, as well as animals that have been abused and neglected, a second chance at life, providing these defenseless and sick or injured animals with compassionate care and expert medical treatment; and

WHEREAS, once rescued, Atlanta Pet Rescue ensures that the animals are vaccinated, treated for intestinal and external parasites, spayed or neutered, properly socialized, and lavished with an abundance of love, care, and affection; and

WHEREAS, many animals who are taken in by Atlanta Pet Rescue require medical treatment for preventable and curable problems such as heartworm disease, skin problems, and broken limbs, and Atlanta Pet Rescue has fostered an excellent relationship with Paces Ferry Veterinary Clinic which assists this no-kill shelter in many of their extreme medical cases and emergencies, treating each animal with gentle and caring hands; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Atlanta Pet Rescue has expanded greatly, purchasing its own stand-alone building, open to the public for adoptions in November, 2004, and growing to include seven employees and countless dedicated volunteers; and

WHEREAS, Atlanta Pet Rescue also maintains a first-class website with over 200,000 hits a day, displaying photos of pets up for adoption with descriptions of their backgrounds, allowing potential adopters to learn about them and giving those who are unable to volunteer their time the opportunity to make monetary donations to specific animals and watch that animal's progress, with updates from doctors' visits, foster home reports, and pictures with the new family on adoption day; and

WHEREAS, the staff and volunteers at Atlanta Pet Rescue are determined to find the best possible forever home for their animals, utilizing an extensive application and screening process to allow potential adopters to find a perfectly matched pet with the appropriate temperament for their lifestyle, ensuring that the animals never end up in a shelter or neglectful situation again; and

WHEREAS, the employees and volunteers at Atlanta Pet Rescue are committed to comforting and making each day better for the animals at the shelter; and

WHEREAS, to date, Atlanta Pet Rescue has found over 9,000 dogs and cats loving, forever homes, and their outstanding work has been recognized by Atlanta Magazine as a Best Place to Adopt in 2008 and 2009; and

WHEREAS, the selfless devotion of Atlanta Pet Rescue to rescuing animals in need and finding them loving homes and the incredible compassion for animals demonstrated by the employees and volunteers of this organization is worthy of recognition.
