RESOLUTION
Commending
Connie Bowlin for her induction into the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Connie Bowlin grew up on a tobacco farm in Kernersville, North Carolina, and
graduated from Winston-Salem Business College in 1970; and
WHEREAS,
while working as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines, Mrs. Bowlin trained to
successfully obtain her private, commercial, and airline transport pilot
certificates and multi-engine and instrument ratings; and
WHEREAS,
in 1978, Mrs. Bowlin became the fourth female pilot hired by Delta Airlines,
which made her one of the first 50 women pilots hired by a major airline
carrier; and
WHEREAS,
this aviation role model, who retired from Delta Airlines in 2003 after 25 years
of service, has logged more than 18,000 flight hours in more than 70 types of
aircraft and is currently the only woman flying the B-17; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Bowlin currently resides in Griffin, Georgia, with her husband Ed where she
spends her time on the ground writing aviation articles which have been
published in several aviation magazines; and
WHEREAS,
this aeronautical ace is the driving force behind the Warbirds in Review, a
program which showcases significant warbird aircraft and pilots during EAA
AirVenture Oshkosh; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Bowlin's flight skills have been recognized with her 2008 induction into
the Sport Aviation Hall of Fame and her classification as "Eagle" by the Air
University during the Gathering of Eagles in 1998;
and
WHEREAS, on February 14, 2009, Mrs. Bowlin will be formally inducted into the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame in a ceremony at the Robins Air Force Base Museum of Aviation; and
WHEREAS, on February 14, 2009, Mrs. Bowlin will be formally inducted into the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame in a ceremony at the Robins Air Force Base Museum of Aviation; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Bowlin is rightfully deserving of admission into the Georgia Aviation Hall
of Fame for her many successes and the example she has set for so many, and it
is both fitting and proper that we recognize this great female pilot's
contribution to Georgia's aviation history.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body
commends Mrs. Connie Bowlin for her induction into the Georgia Aviation Hall of
Fame and looks forward to seeing this outstanding Georgian's achievements
recognized and recorded into Georgia's aviation history and legacy.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Connie
Bowlin.
