A RESOLUTION


Recognizing the extraordinary contributions of women entrepreneurs to the United States of America and, specifically, the State of Georgia and declaring February 22, 2010, as Women Entrepreneurs Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, majority women-owned firms are growing at a rate nearly twice that of the national average, contributing $1.1 trillion in revenues to the national economy and creating jobs for 7.2 million Americans; and

WHEREAS, Georgia is one of the top ten states for majority women-owned businesses based on number of firms, sales revenues, and employees; and

WHEREAS, women entrepreneurs and their businesses contribute significantly to economic growth in this state and add to the quality of life of Georgia citizens; and

WHEREAS, female entrepreneurs continue to be an integral part of Georgia's diverse economic industries and have made major, unparalleled contributions to this state's growth and development; and

WHEREAS, collectively, women entrepreneurs are to be recognized for thriving despite historical barriers, having held fast to their entrepreneurial spirit, and prevailing as the leaders of businesses that demonstrate and provide great service, high standards, exceptional skill, innovation, educational attainment, and professionalism; and

WHEREAS, even during national and state economic challenges, women entrepreneurs have continued to grow their businesses, serve their communities, and care for their families; and

WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that women entrepreneurs be honored and recognized for all that they have accomplished and the fine example they have set.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize the considerable contributions of women entrepreneurs to the State of Georgia and declare February 22, 2010, as Women Entrepreneurs Day at the state capitol.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to members of the public and the press.
