A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Lieutenant Michael Stephan Vogt; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Lieutenant Michael Stephan Vogt on February 15, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Vogt was born on September 4, 1953, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a beloved son of Jack and Tommye Vogt; and

WHEREAS, as a child, Lieutenant Vogt excelled in school and enjoyed spending time reading, fishing, participating in Boy Scouts, playing football, and growing up with his three brothers, John, Chris, and Pat; and

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Vogt began his prestigious career in law enforcement 36 years ago in Norman, Oklahoma, at the age of 20; and

WHEREAS, he went on to work for the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation, the Union City Police Department, and the Chattahoochee Hills Police Department; and

WHEREAS, a certified fraud examiner and fire investigator, Lieutenant Vogt earned his rank as lieutenant with the Chattahoochee Hills Police Department in under two short years, demonstrating his great leadership abilities and skill as an officer; and

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Vogt was united in love and marriage to the love of his life, Lendell, on December 10, 1980, and was blessed with six wonderful children and five remarkable grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Lieutenant Vogt will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Lieutenant Michael Stephan Vogt and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Lieutenant Michael Stephan Vogt.
