A RESOLUTION


Honoring and celebrating the 104th birthday of Mrs. Dora Hunter Allison Spiva; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Dora Hunter Allison Spiva was born in Choestoe, Georgia, on February 10, 1905, the beloved daughter of Martha Souther Hunter and James Hunter; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Spiva stands as a living record of this nation's history as the daughter of a Union Army soldier and the granddaughter of a Confederate Army soldier and having lived through the command of 19 United States presidents; and

WHEREAS, this distinguished Georgian was educated in the public schools of Choestoe and Old Liberty before she attended the Collegiate Institute of Blairsville; and

WHEREAS, well beloved by her students, Mrs. Spiva taught math and Latin and served as a principal and school counselor; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Spiva has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for her vital role in the field of education and her deep personal commitment to the welfare of the students of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, her dedication to molding young minds and challenging students to achieve their utmost potential was recognized by Truett McConnell College, where the school of education has been named in her honor, with graduates receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education from the Dora Hunter Allison Spiva School of Education; and

WHEREAS, a devout and faithful woman, Mrs. Spiva has been a member of the Choestoe Baptist Church since childhood and organized the Baptist Women's Missionary Union over 75 years ago; and
WHEREAS, a charter member of the Blairsville Garden Club and the Union County Retired Teachers' Association, Mrs. Spiva is a woman of great kindness and generosity who is considerate, helpful, and giving; and

WHEREAS, this benevolent and honorable gentlewoman has given inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens and she possesses the vast wisdom which only comes through experience and the strength of character which is achieved through overcoming the many challenges of life; and it is only fitting and proper that she be appropriately recognized on this very special and remarkable day in her life.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate Mrs. Dora Hunter Allison Spiva on the wonderful occasion of her 104th birthday and commended for her 104 years of caring devotion to her family and fellow citizens.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Dora Hunter Allison Spiva.
