By:
Senators Stoner of the 6th, Butler of the 55th and Balfour of the 9th
A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Cameron Tidwell of the Shiloh High School basketball team, the
Dominion Christian High School basketball team, and Dominion Basketball Head
Coach Mike Gold; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Cameron Tidwell is the leading scorer and captain for the Shiloh High School
basketball team; and
WHEREAS,
Cameron displayed his determination and drive at an early age, establishing a
goal in sixth grade to score 1,000 points during his varsity basketball career;
and
WHEREAS,
during his senior year at Shiloh and after years of hard work and dedication,
Cameron injured his left knee, tearing his ACL; and
WHEREAS,
despite his doctor's diagnosis and prediction that he would only have a 5-10
percent chance of playing basketball again during his senior year, Cameron was
motivated to return to the court and meet his goal of 1,000 points before
graduation; and
WHEREAS,
his faith in God and devoted rehabilitation allowed him to return to the game of
basketball, and on January 23, 2009, Cameron was poised to meet his 1,000 point
goal during an away game against Dominion Christian High School;
and
WHEREAS,
by the third quarter of the game, Cameron was just three points away from his
high school career goal with 997 when the unthinkable happened; and
WHEREAS,
as Cameron came down from a hard drive to the basket his knee gave way and he
crashed to the floor of the court in pain and agony, and after ten minutes he
had to be carried off the court; and
WHEREAS,
Cameron's 1,000 point goal was widely known in the local high school basketball
community and the head coach of the opposing team, Mike Gold, was just as
disappointed for Cameron as everyone in the stands; and
WHEREAS,
upon the suggestion of Coach Gold, it was arranged that Cameron would score
those last few points and achieve his childhood dream, and with the crowd on
their feet, Cameron's older brother, Nathan, helped him out to the court;
and
WHEREAS,
the Dominion players stood to the side and allowed Cameron to shoot two more
shots with the announcer calling a play by play and the
Rocky
theme song playing in the background; and
WHEREAS,
the game concluded with tears of joy from all in attendance and Coach Gold
handing the game ball to Cameron for his great achievement; and
WHEREAS,
Cameron's dream would not have become a reality if it had not been for the
unselfish and classy sportsmanship of Coach Gold and all the Dominion players,
and the great display of the true meaning of sport by all involved that day are
worthy of recognition.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the dedication and hard work displayed by Cameron Tidwell in scoring 1,000
points during his high school career and applaud the integrity and sportsmanship
demonstrated by the Dominion Christian High School basketball team and their
head coach, Mike Gold.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Cameron Tidwell and Mike
