Senate Resolution 1609

A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Dr. James Hall and Enlyfe New Direction Alliance and Ministries, Inc.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Enlyfe New Direction Alliance and Ministries, Inc., is an organization that works diligently to address the major issues facing residents of the City of Atlanta and Fulton County returning to the area after incarceration in Georgia's prisons; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership and direction of Dr. James Hall, Enlyfe works to reduce recidivism and encourages successful reentry into the community for Atlanta and Fulton County citizens; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Hall is an educator, clinical psychologist, and epidemiologist who devotes his time, talents, and energy to improving the lives offenders by providing a smooth transition back into their communities; and

WHEREAS, Enlyfe works under the Second Chance Act, a collaborative and bipartisan effort between the United States Congress and the Obama Administration to increase the likelihood of successful reentry into communities by the 750,000 individuals who leave prison systems each year; and

WHEREAS, the Second Chance Act authorizes federal grants to government agencies and nonprofit organizations to provide employment assistance, substance abuse treatment, housing, family programming, mentoring, victim support, and other services to help reduce recidivism; and

WHEREAS, numerous organizations have collaborated with Enlyfe and include the Georgia Department of Corrections Reentry Services under the direction of director A.J. Sebree; the United States Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs/Bureau of Justice Assistance; Celebrate Recovery under the direction of founder Carol Spain; S.T.E.M., Inc., Employment Service for Reentry under president Vermell Jordan; Formerly Incarcerated Persons Community Support Group under the direction of advocate A.J. Sabree; Bridge DA GAP Youth Movement, and United Straz Youth Organization; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding work of this fine organization and its numerous contributions to the citizens of this state be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize Enlyfe New Direction Alliance and Ministries, Inc., for its dedicated and selfless service to improving the lives of residents in Atlanta and Fulton County who are returning to their communities.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. James Hall.
