A RESOLUTION


Honoring and congratulating Lucille Harris-Cain on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Lucille Harris-Cain was born in Newton, Georgia, on August 7, 1908, the beloved daughter of John and Lizzie Lyons; and

WHEREAS, she was a devoted and loving wife to her beloved first husband, the late Deacon George Harris, and her cherished second husband, the late Reverend Joseph Cain; and

WHEREAS, this esteemed Georgian has lived her life humbly in service of others through a distinguished career as a foster parent for the Allegheny County Department of Family and Children Services, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, her incredible compassion for those in need is further demonstrated by her volunteer service and active membership in numerous community organizations such as the Vintage Community Center where she read and served meals; the Adult Day Program; the Walking Club; the Song Birds of the South Chorus; her service as President of the Red Hatters Club; the National Association of Baptist Ministers' Wives; the Order of the Eastern Star, Cyrene Chapter #9; the National Association of the Interdenominational Ministers' Wives; and the Mother's Ministry; and

WHEREAS, Lucille Harris-Cain is a woman of great moral character, loved and respected by all those who have had the great pleasure of knowing her as reflected by her receipt of numerous awards and honors including the Foster Mother of the Year Award and the National Association of Baptist Ministers' Wives Leadership Award; and

WHEREAS, for more than 26 years Lucille Harris-Cain served as the First Lady of the New Pilgrim Baptist Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and she is currently a devoted member of the Friendship Community Church in College Park, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, this strong and inspirational woman has seen many world changes over the course of her lifetime and has significantly contributed to the betterment of mankind by her own hard work, good citizenship and devout Christian service; and

WHEREAS, she is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and by the example she has made of her life, she makes this world a better place in which to live; and it is only fitting and proper that she be appropriately recognized during this very special and memorable time of her life.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that Lucille Harris-Cain is hereby congratulated on the wonderful occasion of her 100th birthday and commended for her 100 years of caring devotion to her family and fellow citizens.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Lucille Harris-Cain.
