RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Arthur D. Baylor; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Arthur D. Baylor currently serves as Police Chief for Montgomery, Alabama,
and was the first African American to be appointed to this position on November
29, 2004; and
WHEREAS,
as Montgomery Police Chief, he is responsible for leading the men and women in
uniform who provide service to the over 202,000 citizens of Montgomery and the
nearly 150,000 others who travel to the area on a daily basis; and
WHEREAS,
Chief Baylor directs the work of 510 sworn officers and 200 civilian employees
committed to reducing crime and protecting citizens; and
WHEREAS,
Chief Baylor earned a Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science degree
from Troy University, a diploma from the Federal Bureau of Investigation
National Academy, and graduated from the Montgomery Regional Police Academy;
and
WHEREAS,
during his over 21 years of devoted service in law enforcement, Chief Baylor has
held numerous positions with the Montgomery Police Department; and
WHEREAS,
some of Chief Baylor's many achievements and accolades include the Outstanding
Young Men of America Award, the Montgomery/Tuskegee Achievement Award, and the
Kappa Man of the Year award; and
WHEREAS,
Chief Baylor has demonstrated his great leadership ability and commitment to his
community through his participation in such activities as the Kiwanis Club, the
Kids and Cops Committee, Leadership Montgomery Class X, the Board of Directors
for the State FBI National Academy, and the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, where he
serves as President; and
WHEREAS,
Chief Baylor is highly regarded by the citizens of his community and by state
and local government officials as a person of unquestioned integrity and
dedication to the administration of justice and sound principles of law
enforcement.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
commending the commitment and leadership displayed by Mr. Arthur D. Baylor and
recognize his great distinction as the first African American Police Chief of
Montgomery, Alabama.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Police Chief Arthur D.
Baylor.
